Who Is Danai Clay

Introduction

Danai Claudette Sisimayi A.K.A. Danai Clay was born on the 19th of August 1996 in the beautiful land of Zimbabwe. She is a recording artist, vocalist, mbira player and song writer. Danai Clay is an afro-fusion/ afro-soul artist and loves fusing the traditional Zimbabwean sounds with modern instruments.

Education

She was enrolled at Southerton Primary School and Eaglesvale High school where she did her primary and secondary education respectively. Furthermore, she studied at Africa University where she majored in Computer Information Systems.

Music

Danai grew an interest in music at the age of 8 and also started playing the Nyunga nyunga (mbira). Growing up she was part of her church choir and singing always gave her joy and still does up-to this day. In high school, she was part of the Eaglesvale High School choir and the marimba band. She performed at all the school functions and also participated in events such as Combined School Choirs and Allied Arts. Furthermore, she joined the Africa University choir in 2015 and also joined the Marimba band. She was also part of the Africa University choir group that toured America in February 2018. Being part of these groups made her grow and love music even more. Danai Clay started writing songs at the age of 16 and recorded her first song entitled “Wipe your tears” in 2015.It is a song that encourages people to hope for a better tomorrow even when things are not well. In 2018, she recorded her second song called “Rudo” which is a celebration song for the love of God in our lives. This song featured on the Star Fm gospel greats for six weeks. In 2019 she recorded her third single entitled “Nguva Yacho”. The song encourages people to be happy and most importantly not forgetting to give glory to the Almighty. In 2021, she released her debut EP entitled “MAVAMBO” which contains six tracks. The genre of the EP is afro-fusion/afro-soul and the melodies of the songs where derived from the Nyunga nyunga (mbira) which is a traditional Zimbabwean instrument.

Aspirations

Danai Clay aspires to become an inspiration to many young women around the globe so that they will not be afraid to pursue their dreams.
